Nausicaa

For some time I've been trying to find a movie that I saw some 17 years ago on HBO when I was a kid. Anime wasn't a word I had ever heard then, but that's what I'd describe it as now. 17 years ago makes things pretty fuzzy, but I still remember being very moved by the message of the movie and still have these vague memories of flying scenes that took place over a dramatic world. I've never been able to come up with enough pieces of information to figure out what it was, but tonight I got lucky!

Before the Simpsons they aired a commercial for Nausicaa and I instantly knew it was the movie I had seen so long ago. Hayao Miyazaki, the guy who directed Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke, created this film in 1984! It was released in the US under another name and a lot of the original version was cut. It's likely that that's what I saw in HBO way back then. I can't wait to check it out!
